Prague: the European restaurant experience edition

April 29

We did a tour of Prague, learned a bit about Czech history, saw the famous astrological (astronomical?) clock, an opera house in which Mozart played (the green building) and that creepy thing that looks like a Ringwraith from the Lord of the Rings (of course I needed it picture with it), and ate some yummy Czech food.

Two notable things that I feel like mentioning:

1) There was an explosion while we were there, some of you may heard. I know at least my grandma did (shout out)

2) The most memorable thing from that day was the fact that we sat in that restaurant for 2-3 hours, but there's a very specific reason for that. Europeans have a different idea of what the restaurant experience is. Americans like to get in, eat, and get out as quickly as possible (and the waiters like it that way too) but in Europe, especially in Prague, it's not quite the same.

First of all, we got there and the restaurant was full...so they told us to leave (not an uncommon thing in Europe - they don't rush their customers). We, being the stubborn, tired, and hungry Americans that we were, told them we'd just wait. But getting a table wasn't a problem...getting our bill, however, was. We finished and were just sitting for quite a while because we hadn't asked for our check (if you don't ask for it, chances are it won't be brought for a good while) and we knew that, but we had nothing better to do so we just stayed and chatted. However as the minutes passed we began to grow antsy. We wanted to leave. Usually if you're there too long, the waiter will bring you your check...but ours just sort of up and disappeared. So moral of the story is: ask for your check in a European restaurant or you might end up for double/triple the time you expected.
